A Navajo Blessing . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Source Unknown

"Go forth in peace.
Be still within yourself, and know that the trail is beautiful.
May the winds be gentle upon your face,
And your direction be straight and true as the flight of the eagle.
Walk in beauty and harmony with God and all people."

Cherish Your Visions . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Napoleon Hill, YourSuccessStore.com

"Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul, the blueprints of your ultimate accomplishments"

A Few Things Well . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . St. Francis de Sales

"It is far better to do a few things well than to undertake many good works and leave them half done."

TeshuvahFixing – Mistakes . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Lori Palatnik, Aish.com

"Mistakes will happen; fixing them so that they won’t be repeated is the challenge of teshuvah.

Renewing Our Faith    Everyone makes mistakes.…Our forefathers and foremothers were human, made of flesh and blood. Indeed, what made them great was not that they led perfect lives, but that they learned from their mistakes. When they fell, they got up and continued on the path toward God.

What does God want from us when we make mistakes?

The word teshuvah means "return." It is often mistranslated as "repentance." When we are asked by God to do teshuvah, we are asked by God to return.…Returning means going back to somewhere you’ve been, somewhere familiar.

Teshuvah means we return to the path God set for us when we were born, the path that our souls know as homeward bound, the path of goodness, of becoming a better person."

Friends . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . William Arthur Ward

"What creation is more beautiful, what treasure is more valuable, than a warm, encouraging friend?"

The Success Principle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jack Canfield, p. 130

"Behind every great achievement is a story of education, training, practice, discipline, and sacrifice. You have to be willing to pay the price.

Maybe that price is pursuing one single activity while putting everything else in your life on hold.…But though many things are typically required to reach a successful outcome, the willingness to do what’s required adds that extra dimension to the mix that helps you persevere in the face of overwhelming challenges, setbacks, pain, and even personal injury."

Start Living . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Henry James

"It is time to start living the life you have imagined."

Wit and Wisdom . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Benjamin Franklin

"How few there are who have courage enough to own their own faults, or resolution enough to mend them."

Achieving Knowledge . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . James Hilton, EDUCAUSE, March-April, 2006

"[T]he library and the professor’s lecture are both remembered primarily for their value as information gateways. The students gained access to information through the library or the words of the professor. The problem is that if someone asks me what I want to achieve in my class, it is not to provide access to information. I want to provide access to knowledge. The difference between information and knowledge is subtle but important. Knowledge is what you do with information. Knowledge is how you make meaning out of information. And, usually, you gain knowledge through an interactive process – by interacting with someone or by doing some critical analysis or further exploration of the information. Achieving knowledge requires a much richer and more complicated environment than that required for accessing information."

Life Is A Miracle . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Mary Jane Ryan, The Works, Winter 2000, p. 6

Person raising arms toward the sun.

"Spiritual leaders teach that waking up is a process, that it doesn’t just happen once and for all, but must occur again and again when we realize we have forgotten the miracle of being alive, and in recognizing our forgetfulness, we wake to the miracles once again. In the moments we are awake to the wonder of being alive, gratitude flows, no matter our circumstances."

Discovering Virtue . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Sir Francis Bacon

"Prosperity discovers vice;
Adversity discovers virtue."

Essential to Leadership . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Kouses & Posner, The Leadership Challenge, p. 18

"[H]onesty is absolutely essential to leadership. After all, if we are to willingly follow someone, whether it be into battle or into the boardroom, we first want to assure ourselves that the person is worthy of our trust. We want to know that he or she is being truthful, ethical, and principled. We want to be fully confident in the integrity of our leaders.…"

I Wish For You… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Jim Rohn

"I wish for you a life of wealth, health and happiness; a life in which you give to yourself the gift of patience, the virtue of reason, the value of knowledge and the influence of faith in your own ability to dream about and to achieve worthy rewards."

A Teacher Ought To Be . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Yushi Nomura, Desert Wisdom, p. 94

Amma Theodora once said, "A teacher ought to be a stranger to love of domination, and a foreigner to vainglory, far from arrogance, neither deceived by flattery, nor blinded by gifts, nor a slave to the stomach, nor held back by anger, but rather should be patient, kind, and as far a possible humble. A teacher ought to be self-disciplined, tolerant, diligent, and a lover of souls."

A Dangerous Place . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Dr. Albert Einstein

"The world is a dangerous place to live in not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don’t do anything about it."

On Consideration . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Meander

"There is but one great love potion—consideration."

Children as Kites . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Erma Bombeck

Flying kites    "I see children as kites. You spend a lifetime trying to get them off the ground. You run with them until you’re both breathless…they crash…you add a longer tail…they hit the rooftop…you pluck them out of the spout. You patch and comfort, adjust and teach. You watch them lifted by the wind and assure them that someday they’ll fly.

Finally they are airborne, but they need more string and you keep letting it out. With each twist of the ball of twine, there is a sadness that goes with the joy because the kite becomes more distant, and somehow you know that it won’t be long before that beautiful creature will snap the lifeline that bound you together and will soar as it was meant to soar…free and alone.

Only then do you know that you did your job."

Lesson From A Terrapin . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Pulpit Helps, Sept. ‘92

There was a boy who found a terrapin, more commonly known as a turtle. He started to examine it, but the turtle pulled in its head and closed its shell like a vice. The boy was upset and he picked up a stick to try to pry it open.

The boy’s uncle saw all this and remarked, "No, that’s not the way! In fact, you may kill the turtle, but you’ll not get it to open up with a stick."

The uncle took the terrapin into the house and set it near the fireplace. It wasn’t but a few minutes until it began to get warm. Then the turtle pushed out its head, stretched out its legs and began to crawl. "Turtles are like that," said the uncle, "and people, too. You can’t force them into anything. But if you first warm them up with some real kindness, more than likely they will do what you want them to do."

"But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead." 1 Cor. 15:20
